What we believe here at Lighthouse Baptist Church: THE HOLY SCRIPTURES? We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Scriptures, consisting of 66 books which constitute the Old and New Testaments, the Word of God, without error in the original writings, (as preserved in the Authorized King James Bible) the complete and unalterable special revelation of God, and our final authority. We believe in the normal, literal, and consistent interpretation of the Scriptures; and a Dispensational understanding of God's progressive revelation (Matthew 5:18; John 16:12,13; 2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:20, 21). Furthermore, we believe in the divine preservation of God's Word, that is, that God has preserved His Word to every generation. (Psalm 12:6, 7) We believe that God has preserved His Word in the King James Version; therefore we use it exclusively in all of our preaching and teaching ministries. Therefore, be it known, that we reject, (1) the Westcott & Hort theory about the so called oldest and best manuscripts, the Vaticanus and Siniaticus and etc., and (2) all the versions and translations since then (Including the RSV, JB, NEB, ASV, NASV, TEV, NIV, NKJV & etc.) which are based on those manuscripts and that unscriptural theory as being in error for the following reasons:      1. Instead of the Vaticanus and Siniaticus being the oldest and best as thought by Wescott, Hort and others, (as indicated in the footnotes of the above mentioned translations) they are by far the most corrupted manuscripts of the 5,309 we have in existence today. By comparing these two manuscripts side by side, it has been a well known fact for over 100 years, that these two manuscripts disagree with each other over 3,000 times in the gospels alone, as to the correct reading.      2. That theory, denies the Divine Preservation of God's Word, and handles it like any other book. The Holy Scriptures have been under attack from the beginning of the Church Age, (2 Peter 3:1-18).      3. God has given a strong warning against tampering with His Word. When anyone begins to remove words from Holy Scripture, God removes their names from the Book of Life! God says in Revelation 22:19, "And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life..." and in Revelation 20:15, "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."      4. Furthermore, other valid arguments and facts can be found in the book: "LET'S WEIGH THE EVIDENCE", by Barry Burton. It is published by, Chick Publications, PO. Box 662, Chino, CA 91708 THE TRINITY? We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1; John 4:24, 10:30; and Acts 5:1-4). GOD THE FATHER? We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power, merciful towards men, hearing and answering prayer, providing salvation to all who come to Him through Christ. (Isaiah 6:3; Job 42:2; Genesis 1:1; Romans 5:8; II Peter 3:9; Exodus 3:13-14; Deuteronomy 6:4; and John 14:6). THE PERSON AND WORK OF CHRIST? We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, wrapped Himself in human flesh without ceasing to be God, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, (Luke 1:35; John 1:1,2,14) and lived a sinless life. He came to reveal God in the flesh, and redeem sinful man, through His vicarious death on the cross, and His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (John 3:16, Romans 3:24,25, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9, I Peter 1:3-5; 2:24, I John 2:2). We believe the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate (Acts 1:9, 10; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 9:24; 7:25; I John 2:1,2). THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT? We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, who in this present age convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He regenerates, baptizes, seals, indwells, fills, enlightens, guides, and empowers the believer for Godly living and service. (John 16:8-11; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:12-14; II Corinthians 3:6; Ephesians 1:13, 14, 5:18). THE TOTAL DEPRAVITY OF MAN? We believe man was directly created by God in His own image and likeness, but that he willfully chose sin. The entire human race became alienated from God, in a state of spiritual bondage, and is therefore eternally lost. The natural man, of himself, is utterly unable to remedy his lost condition (Genesis 1:26, 27; Romans 3:22, 23: 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12). ETERNAL SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER? We believe all those who are savingly joined to Christ, will never perish or loose their salvation, and if a person has a salvation they can loose, it is not the salvation of the Bible! The salvation the Bible talks about can never be lost once it is applied to God's elect (Romans 8:1, 33, 38, & 39; John 1:12; 6:37-40; 10:27-30; I Corinthians 1:4-8; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-10; I Peter 1:5, 18, 19). We believe that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ and that only by regeneration of the Holy Spirit can salvation and eternal life be obtained. (John 3:3-5; Acts 13:38-39; Romans 3:24-25, 5:1; and Colossians 1:14) We as believers in Christ, according to the Doctrines of Grace, as taught in the Bible, are eternally secure because those, "chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world," (Ephesians 1:4; and II Thessalonians 2:13-14) who in time, embrace Christ, can never be separated from the Love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:28-39) TWO NATURES? We believe every saved person possesses two natures, with provision made for victory of the new nature over the old nature through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, and all claims to the eradication of the old nature in this life are unscriptural (Romans 6:13; 8:12, 13; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:10; I Peter 1:14-16; I John 3:5-9). We believe it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God's Word which, however, clearly forbids the use of christian liberty as an occasion to the flesh (Romans 13:13, 14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11-15; I Peter 2:13-20). THE CHURCH? We believe the Church, which began with the baptizing work of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, is the body and bride of Christ. It is the spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons of the present age (Acts 2:1-13; Ephesians 1:22, 23; 5:25-27; I Corinthians 12:13-14; II Corinthians 2:11). We believe the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27; 20:17, 28- 32; I Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11) as a company of born again, immersed believers called out from the world, separated unto the Lord Jesus Christ, voluntarily associated for the ministry of the Word, the mutual edification of its members, the propagation of the faith, and the observance of the ordinances. We believe the local church is a sovereign independent body, exercising its own divinely awarded gifts, precepts, and privileges under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church. (Acts 2:41-47; Matthew 18:15-17; and Ephesians 4:11-16). THE TWO ORDINANCES? We believe the Lord Jesus Christ established two ordinances for the Church in this present age. These are believer's water baptism, practiced by immersion, and the Lord's supper, observed as a memorial of His death (I Corinthians 1:14, 11:23-34; Acts 8:12, 35-39; 10:47, 48). These are not however, to be regarded as a means of salvation. Both are practiced by those who are already saved and sure of Heaven. THE MINISTRY AND SPIRITUAL GIFTS? We believe the Lord Jesus Christ gives His Church today evangelists (church planting missionaries) and Pastors. These gifted men are to equip the saints for the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:7-14). We believe the Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts upon all believers for Christian service and the edification of the Church (Romans 12:3-8; I Corinthians 12:4-11; I Peter 4:10, 11; and Ephesians 4:17). We believe the church age was initiated through the foundational ministry of the apostles and prophets, accompanied by sign gifts to confirm their message. These two offices and the sign gifts (tongues, gifts of healings, interpretation of tongues, miracles, and prophecy) and further direct divine revelation, ceased at the time of the completion of the New Testament near the close of the first century A.D. (I Corinthians 12:28-31; 13:8-10; 14:1-28; II Corinthians 12:12; Ephesians 2:19-22; Hebrews 2:3, 4). We believe God hears and answers prayer in accord with His own will for healing of the sick and afflicted (John 14:13, 14; 15:7; I John 5:14, 15). DISPENSATIONALISM? We believe the Scriptures interpreted in their natural, literal sense reveal divinely determined dispensations which define man's responsibility in successive ages. A dispensation is not a way of salvation, but a divinely ordered stewardship by which God directs man according to His purpose (John 1:17; I Corinthians 9:17; II Corinthians 3:9- 18; Galatians 3:13-25; Ephesians 1:10; 3:2-10; Colossians 1:24,25; Hebrews 7:19; Revelations 20:2-6). We believe salvation is always by grace through faith regardless of the dispensation in which the believer may have lived. God's purpose of salvation by grace through faith alone has always been based upon the substitutionary atonement of our Lord Jesus Christ upon the Cross (Ephesians 2:8-10; Hebrews 11:6; I Peter 1:10-12) THE PERSONALITY OF SATAN? We believe Satan is a created being, the author of sin, the temper in the fall, the declared enemy of God and man, and the god of this age, who transforms himself into an angel of light to deceive and destroy. He shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire (Job 1:6, 7; Isaiah 14:12-17; Matthew 4:2-11; 25:41; Revelations 20:10; Ephesians 6:11- 12; Ezekiel 28:13-15. ). THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST? We believe in the personal, imminent, pretribulational and premillennial coming (or rapture) of the Lord Jesus Christ for His redeemed ones. We believe that at the end of the seven year tribulation He will return to earth with the saints in power and glory to reign for a thousand years (Zechariah 14:4-11; I Thessalonians 1:10; 4:13-18; 5:9; Titus 2:13; Revelations 3:10; 19:11-121; 20:1-6; I Corinthians 15:51-52). THE RESURRECTION AND THE ETERNAL STATE? We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46; John 5:28, 29; 11:25, 26; Revelations 20:5, 6, 12, 13). We believe the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious bliss they await the first resurrection, when spirit, soul, and body are reunited and glorified to be forever with the Lord (Luke 23:43; II Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 3:21; I Thessalonians 4:16, 17; Revelation 20:4-6). We believe the souls of unbelievers are, at death, absent from the body and in conscious misery in Hell, until the final resurrection, when with their soul and body reunited, they shall appear at the Great White Throne Judgment and shall be cast alive into the lake of fire, not to be annihilated but to suffer everlasting conscious punishment (Matthew 25:41-46; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 16:19-26; II Thessalonians 1:7-9; Jude 6, 7; Revelation 20:11-15). CREATION? We believe the Triune God, by free act and for His own glory, without the use of existing materials or secondary causes, brought into being immediately and instantaneously in six literal days by the word of His mouth the whole visible and invisible universe (Genesis 1:1-27; Exodus 20:8-11; Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 104:25, 26; Isaiah 40:21-31; John 1:1-5; Colossians 1:16, 17). BLOOD ATONEMENT? We believe that without the shedding of Christ's blood, and its application to the sinner, there is no remission of sins for any of mankind. (Romans 3:24-26 & Hebrews 9:22) CHURCH MUSIC? We believe that all music used in the Church should meet the following criterion:      1. The heart of both the writer and the singer should be right with God.      2. The message should be scriptural, and the music should compliment the message.      3. The type of music should be both God honoring and edifying. Rock Music, Country & Western, Christian (so called) Rock and other worldly music shall have no place in the church. Any music used in the Church shall be approved by the Pastor and/or Associate & Assistant Pastors. Further instruction or clarification of our position on church music can be found in the book: "The Battle For Christian Music", by Tim Fisher. It is published by, Sacred Music Services, P.O. Box 17072, Greenville, S.C., 29606. BIBLICAL SEPARATION AND AFFILIATION? We believe that all redeemed ones are called into a life of separation from all worldly and sinful practices. (Romans 12:1-2; II Corinthians 6:14; James 4:4 and I John 2:16) We believe the saved should be separated unto the Lord Jesus Christ, necessitating holy living in all personal and ecclesiastical associations and relationships (Romans 12:1, 2; 14:13; I Corinthians 6:19, 20; II. Corinthians 6:14-18; Titus 2:14; James 4:4, 5; I Peter 2:9; I John 2:15-17). As an Independent, Bible Believing Baptist Church, we stand on all the doctrines of the Word of God and we stand against and separate ourselves from the heresy, apostasy, and the compromise of our day. Further instruction and clarification about Biblical Separation can be found in the book: "Axioms of Separation" by John E. Ashbrook. It is published by, "Here I Stand" Books, 8686 Hilltop Drive, Mentor, Ohio 44060 Because there are a number of theological movements which are not biblical, we desire to clarify our position in regard to these movements. We further state that the church, it's Pastors, and members shall not enter into any organizations or cooperative effort with groups or organizations which are part of the following movements. THE ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT? This is the movement which attempts to unite the different faiths and religions on the basis of the least common denominator of doctrine. It emphasizes love and cooperation at the expense of truth. It is a betrayal of the unity of believers based upon sound doctrine of the historic Christian Faith. Its method of operation is subversive. We reject all cooperation with this movement. ECUMENICAL EVANGELISM? It is an endeavor which seeks to promote the gospel, but violates biblical principles in so doing, through the creation of unequal yokes with theological liberals and other divergent groups both Christian and non-Christian. We hold this movement to be unscriptural. NEOEVANGELICALISM? This movement, while claiming to be fundamental in theology, has actually compromised the underlying principles of the Christian Faith. It questions inspiration and literal interpretation. It takes a new approach to the Ecumenical Movement, promotes Ecumenical evangelism, denies both ethical and ecclesiastical separation, restructures eschatology, and overstresses the social aspects of the Gospel. We hold this movement to be unscriptural. THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT? This is an interfaith movement emphasizing religious experiences such as, "a baptism of the Holy Spirit which is always accompanied by speaking in tongues" and/or miraculous sign gifts at the expense of biblical authority and sound biblical interpretation. This movement encourages ecumenism and proclaims a perverted gospel. Since preoccupation with charismatic gifts has divided and destroyed churches, compromised vital and essential Bible doctrines, and dissipated the strength, motivation, and vision of many for true, biblical evangelism; and since the present-day Charismatic Movement is contrary to God's Word, we do not accept or retain as members in our church anyone who participates in this movement or who privately practices speaking in tongues.
